9006 to 9005 headlight conversion?

All you have to do is make the 9005 bulb plug look like the 9006's. The reason is because it is slightly brighter than normal. Pretty good trick. BTW, it can be done on any car with 9006 low beams.

i did it in my car, its kinda nice. not a hugggge difference but noticeable. not like i have oncoming cars flick their lights at me or anything.
so anyway, what i did was sourced a couple of 9005 sockets with ~6" of wire and soldered the wires into the 9006 wires. then i got some heat shrink wire loom shit and covered it all up to keep it clean and dry.

Back when I did the conversion in my car, it was pretty easy. I used a set of 9005 Sylvania Silverstars. All you have to do is first break off/sand down the plastic grooves in the new bulbs to make them look like the inside of the 9006's plug. Then you have to snap off/cut off half of one of the tabs on the outside of the plastic plug housing, so its not as wide. Then take the rubber seal off the old (9006) bulb and it put it on the new (9005) bulb. (You will then have two rubber seals on the 9005 bulb.) Make sure you wear latex gloves or something similar so you don't get any oil from your hands on the bulbs. That's all. Sorry, no pics. But be forewarned. I had to replace 2 silverstar bulbs in less than 6 months because they randomly burned out. It looked really good, but it can be a pain when you have to go and buy another $20 bulb and do the process over again. Road signs especially seemed more noticeable at night. Good luck.

i have a set of silverstars in mine. not sure if its lows or highs. ive had them for 2 years. my sister has had them in her g2 for a couple of years as well.
IMHO the socket swap is a much easier option than modifying the existing socket.

ISP James, thats a good idea to swap sockets instead of modding the bulb itself.

I did it with silverstars...IMO it's easier to use a soldering iron to melt the ridges inside the plug down, and alter the size of the tab on the outside of the harness...rather than file it down. I went HID for the win though.
