Default shifting problems (high rpms)

-A short shifter was put into my the car but it might of not been installed right (previous owner did a self install) as for some reason i cant shift at a high rpms especially when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. I have to shift under 3500 rpms or the car will be hard to shift to the next gear and sometimes will make a grinding noise however when i ease it into 2nd gear it shifts just fine. The other gears are fine for the most part...

Default Shortshifter

I think that you have a shortshift shortshifted. Some person cut their shortshift to be shorter and this cause what you say. It's very hard to wrongly install a shortshift...too easy My car had problem with third syncro. It grinds when I shift over 6500rpm. I put a shortshift and there is no problem now. But it's the second shortshit that I install because the first was too short and my 1 2 3 gear grinded. Anyway. Try to find a stock shifter and check if it works rightly and you'll have your answer.
