A type R tranny would run about 1300 where installing LSD would run about 400ish mabye. there is a big $ difference but how hard is the install if I put LSD in the GSR. woul di be better off on get the type R w/ less miles?

me, i'd personaly buy a type-r LSD and keep my gsr transmission if you really wanted the LSD.

also, please make sure it's a DC2 (b18) LSD and not one from the DC5 (k20)

its def. a bitch to do starting with pulling out the enitire transmission. i would stick with the gsr tran and LSD it

you wouldnt be able to put the tranny from a dc2(k20) anyways (Atleast eeasily) cuz the motor spins in the other way in the RSXs

ITR's from 02+ are DC5's- parts from these WILL NOT WORK
ITR's from pre-02 are DC2's- Parts from these WILL WORK

just to clarify

Don't try it unless you know what you are doing. A ITR trans would be great if you happen to have the money lying around.

OMG, I love reading all this...people are so funny. I cannot believe how unbelievably mentle easy installing the LSD was. I mean, I must have spent like an hour for the whole process. You dont even need a bunch of special tools, a pair of snap ring pliars, feeler gauges, some 10w-30 and some sockets and ratchets. Why buy a Type R tranny? The gsr and type r have the same gears the gsr is minus an LSD. I got a used helical oem Type r LSD for $250 and got each new ball bearing for $33 each. I re used the stock 80mm thrust shim. I got a thrust clearance within spec .000-.004". Its not hard at all, anyone telling you otherwise has no clue what they are doing.

type-r's gears are close ratioed all the way though, you'll run the highway 60mph @ aroud 3.5 is it guys?

on the gs-r the transmission will have you @3k the reason is the gsr's gears are in teh middle of the type-r and the ls so you have a good mix of performance and daily drivability
