Default Transmission won't shift when stopped and engine running!

I noticed that my transmission has been getting a little harder to shift and jerky on the shifts the last couple days. This morning on the way to work I literally could not get it back into any gear when I stopped in trafic. It felt like the linkage was jamed. Now unless the car is not running I cannot get it into gear and once moving I have to shift like I am not using the clutch. Also when I am trying to force it into gear the car moves very slowly.

I've never had any problems with the clutch. It has never slipped.

I also checked out the linkage and it looks fine. When stopped with the engine off it shifts just fine.
I'm thinking it might be my throwout bearing. What do you think?

How old is your tranny? Cause your gears could be partially stripped.... for your sake I hope not, but that happened to my reverse, i couldn't get it into gear because one end of it was rounded. I ended up having to replace my entire tranny (cause it was cheaper than a rebuild). I don't really know much about the clutch so i dunno if it could be the throwout bearing or not. But hopefully my 2 cents can help you anyways... good luck man

Sounds like your synchros are stripped...bad news man, time for a new tranny. Last time I blew mine, I got found a GSR tranny on ebay for half the price of a rebuilt one with only 20K miles on it.

My car is a 94 and it is the original trany. I don't think it is the syncros since it was so sudden and all of them would have had to go out at the same time. The clutch should be fine since it is still grabbing. So unless there is something else I don't know about that leaves the shifting fork or the throwout bearing. I'm going to tear it down tonight and see.

Have you checked to make sure your clutch fluid is full?

well I got it appart and the throwout brearing spins freely, but it does does look worn. The shifter fork is fine. I'm not sure about the clutch though. The fingers all have marks from wear. I'm hesitant to take the clutch appart since I don't have the stuff to line it back up with. So lets take a pole! What do you think it is?

I had a similar problem where it suddenly became extremely hard to shift gears with the engine running. It ended up being that one of the fingers on the clutch broke off, so one of the springs was loose. It was the OEM clutch with about 90,000 miles.

Clutch. Specifically the pressure plate assembly.
