Default AEM SRI installed on my GSR: A couple of questions on the sound!

I installed an AEM SRI on my 98 GSR the other day.

A couple of questions.

When just driving around I don't think the intake sounds much different.

Between about 3K and 5K RPM I hear a noise that almost sounds like a squeaking belt. I'm assuming this is the air being sucked into the intake.

In first and second gear when I hit 6K + I can really hear the motor. Its loud and sounds good

When I hit 6K in 3rd the noise is VERY LOUD! Almost makes me nervous its so friggen loud! Is this typical?

Thanks for the help. Just trying to figure out if this is all normal.

Yes, they are loud. That squeaking noise is a whistle, common with intakes.

One more question. What are your opinions on how much protection this AEM filter offers. Is at just as good as an OEM filter in the stock air box?

the reason to upgrade your intake is because you want a better filter/airflow.. the K&N filter is much better then your stock filter.. just clean it once in a while with the K&N filter cleaner stuff. Since its a SRI, it won't get too dirty like an CAI.
