Default anybdy have problems removing the crank pully bolt?

I have been trying to remove the crank pully bolt with no luck. I have an impact wrench but it's max torque is 230 ft-lbs, is this not enough? I don't have an extention long enough to use my breaker bar... is this bolt reverse threaded, or do I need a bigger impact wrench?

Here's what I do. Go buy yourself a long extension...then use the breaker bar...then I use a floor jack handle slipped over the end of the breaker bar...works every time. Also make sure the car is in 5th gear, and have someone stand on the brake pedal as hard as they can. BTW, it is NOT reverse threaded.

hahahahahahha, good luck. I broke 2 snap on impact sockets, 1 mac impact socket, 1 craftsman socket taking my balancer bolt off, using the breaker bar method. My snap on impact gun wouldnt touch it until I heated the bolt up red hot with a cutting torch and hit it with the impact gun and another impact socket. I was by myself so I took off both wheels and stuck a screwdriver in the brake rotor vanes and put the tranny in 5th gear and turned the balancer till the screwdrivers cought the calipers and wrenched away, had no problems with anything turning and no damage to any parts. Remember when heating the bolt up (if it comes down to it) heat the bolt ONLY!!!!! And whatever you do keep your finger away from the lever on the torch, you want heat only, no blasting the bolt off, and a propane torch isnt enough. I spent 2 days of free time trying to get my bolt off before I borrowed a torch and got-er-done. You can pm me if you have any other problems.

i took my trannie cover off and used a solid pry bar on the flywheel. had someone hold it in place to not damage it and used my breaker bar with my jack handle as a extension and with some work, i got it off. i just wanted to take my time and be careful. this is the biggest pain in the butt compared to the shift linkage pin. just my .02

I used these to get the bolt off. its a vise grip with a chain on it that holds the pully in place. Came off real easy with that on it and a impact gun

thee is a special tool available from HONDA but i got mine from amazon.com, i usd it once and it was SOOOO easy. Use a breaker bar 1/2 and a 1/2 ratchet, 2 people, 2 seconds, it was the easiest thing in the world. All i hear from people is ohhh it was so hard, i cant do, i give up, this was the easiest thing ive ever encountered on my car. Just get the tool, ill sell it to you for $20, email me

After a full week of trying to get this dang crank pully bolt out, I finally got it off! I feel like throwing a party and getting smashed...

I broke a couple of 1/2 inch extensions with my breaker bar and a cheater pole. I bought a 550 ft/lb impact gun and it still wasnt coming out. I decided to get medieval with the b@stard and heat it red hot with an acetalyne torch. It finally popped loose! I was almost ready to overhaul the engine and throw it into liquid hot magma.

Now that its off, I can see that my timing cover is all warped. You can see where the cam gears and the crank pully were scoring into it and were heating and warping it up.... I guess I'll have to get a new one.

Default Crankshaft Pulley Bolt

Note: 98+ Integras
Crankshaft pully bolt size and torque value:
14X1.25 mm
177 N.m (18.0 kgf.m, 130 lbf*ft)

When installing a new crankshaft and/or new pulley bolt:

1. Tighten the pulley bolt to 196 N*m (20.0 kgf*m, 145 lbf*ft)
2. loosen the bolt
3. retighten it to 177 N*m (18.0 kgf*m, 130 lbf*ft).

*When installing the bolt, lubricate the threads with engine oil, but don't lubricate the washer and pulley.

When removing the crankshaft pulley bolt it would save you a big headache if you have the proper tools.

Holder Handle 07JAB-001020A

Pulley Holder attachment 07MAB-PY3010A
HEX 50mm, OFFSET

Socket, 19 mm

Commercially Available

Of course this info comes to late for you but will be available to others. :exnbp:

easier said than done. I have the helm manual for the car so I know how much to tighten it. Also, the manual speaks nothing of this tool.

Let's think about this...It's already fairly obvious that some people have this bolt on tighter than others - The question is, how much tighter? The impact wrench should be able to take the bolt out. I removed the slack out of the pully and tranny. The pully wasn't giving at all with the impact of the 550 ft/lb impact gun, so it is safe to say this bolt needed 550+ ft/lb of torque to remove it. I was breaking tools with around 400 ft/lbs. Even with the holder handle, I would still need to use the breaker bar and hand tools. I would say there is a good chance I would break something else even with the holder handle...
