1 porblem could be the engine is cold wait till it warms up and biulds up the oil pressure so they can move to cames to the larger lobes just give it time before you mash on the pedal

 

I don't know if you would want to do this, but I installed a green LED by my shifter so I know for sure when vtec engages. Really easy to do, and its a good way to make sure vtec is kicking on....

 

I've got a gsr also and its oem for now and i don't hear anything except secondaries...MY question is why is everyone in love with VTEC soo much? Don't get me wrong i love my car and it pulls harder than my ls w/ I/H/E but it seems like everyone is turning VTEC into the next phase of rice

ok, first, i have never just run my engines hard when theyre cold, no matter how crappy the car was, or how much of a hurry im in, ive never done it. second, where do you find the power source for this vtec light you wired up? an lastly, vtec isnt the next phase of rice, vtec is a stronger building platform. the concept of changing how nasty your cam is while youre driving down the road is a dream come true. plus, there is so much room for expansion, the same mods as non-vtec, plus a lot more....

you don't need an external power source, per se. you are just completing a circuit when vtec engages. to wire up the light, just splice and solder a wire into the vtec solenoid, run the wire through the firewall and into the car to the LED, then run another wire from the LED for a ground. that's it.

 

well i understood that, but i knew that something somewhere was sending 12V through a wire to make that diode glow right? thanx, ill give it a shot...

 

my fellow import fans! i have been enlightened!!! i popped the hood this morning to locate the wire that mr. red94teg spoke of, and i decided to pop the cover off my airbox and see how the filter element was lookin. then i decided to take it down the road with the filter still in place but the cover removed...wow. everything you guys have been talking about is clear to me now. what a nasty snarl those things make, damn. ive known forever that factory intake systems are restrictive, but ive never felt and heard such a drastic difference. i love hondas...

to answer my original question, yes, the vtec is working, is does take on a different growl like i expected, its just that honda motor company puts a muzzle on the beast before it leaves the factory, i gotta go get an intake asap...

 

Just because everyone wants a good engine like the B18c1 b18c5 or the b16 doesnt mean that vtec will become "rice".It might be a little overrated but there just good engines that have alot of potential And werent you asking the same question on how you cant hear your vtec when you got your GSR??
