Default Help!!! I think i blew my engine...

Hey whats up people, i think i blew my engine... ok this is what happend... while driving i was in fourth gear around 8000 rpm and when i went to shift to 5th gear... i got mistaken and dropped it to 3rd... my engine did a nasty sound and my car turned off... I pulled to the side and tried to turn it back on and nothing... i had the car towed to my house. i took of the valve cover to see if everything looks right from the top and everything was fine... Now some people have told me that i might of have bent the valves badly. I need sum opinions of what should i do... by the way i have a itr jdm motor

Hey man, I have a 96 JDM Spec R too. It sounds like your timing blew. You said your car just shut off, no power?? Sounds like you couold have bent the valves really bad. Is your timing belt in tact? Check out your water pump pulley and and all that stuff down that way. Take your head off too if you dont see anything around the timing area. Let me know. Sounds like timing though. Later.

it's quiet a costly endeavor...

...i was racing on the freeway (yeah, we all did it in our youth), and shifted to a lower gear (too low) and i saw my tach jump to past 9000 RPM. Immediately i pushed in the clutch, and put it up a gear. i got lucky, i think, coz nothing happened.

Take out your spark plugs and look inside each combustion chamber, Your looking to see if any of the piston tops have unusual markings or bits and pieces of anything.

If you see anything odd, Very bad.
IF you don't then you might have gotton away with just bending valves. But either way looks like you will have to pull the head off.

sounds like u need to rebuild the engine for good measures... just take off the whole damn block and inspect everything, cause u dont want to like replace the valves and not see if theres any internal damage, like rods, crank, pistons, rings, etc. but yea i had that happened to me before, i was bumpin my subs hella loud on the freeway when i needed to pass this truck.. after almost passing it, i was at 4th at about 4k rpm (70 mph) and needed to shift to 5th, but with the music hella loud and my habits of slammin the clutch, gasssin it hard, shift, and let go of the clutch fast, i accidently hit 3rd. luckily my engine went to about 8500 rpm and i hit the clutch fast enough to save it. the clutch burned up hella bad
