The referree said the timing was good and that it should be between 14-15, are the degrees different by motor type?

To improve your chances to pass, change your oil and filter right before test, may want to run a tank with fuel injector cleaner prior to oil change. Do a tune up, rotor, cap, air filter, plug wires and plugs(Type of plug has no bearing on smog test, or not much) Get the car screamin hot before test, hotter cat is more effective, burns cleaner. Oil change probably will have biggest impact of all these things. May want to scan the printout, or let us know exactly what is wrong/out of spec

It's 16 +/- 2 for the GSR, per the Honda manual. More timing will burn better and lean out the a/f a touch.

Put it up to 16 or 17.

Is that where it is supposed to be? Cause here the thing...they check for advanced timing. They pull out the light and clock it. If it is advanced they'll know why.

OEM specs per the Honda manual is 16° BTDC + or - 2°. Yes they get the timing light out and check, but as long as it's within the manufacturer's spec you'll be fine. I had mine at 17 when I went to the ref and he didn't say anything.

I just got off the phone with the Acura Service Dept. I don't know why the hell the referee said it should be between 14 & 15? 16 + or - 2 so between 14 & 18 is what I have to play with. Do you suggest I advance the timing to 17 like yourself? Or should I take it for a pre-certification Smog Place and have them advance it until it passes? What do you think? Mind you the motor is back to stock w/all new plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, air box, cap & rotor straight from Acura. I'm gonna do an oil change this weekend too. I hope this enough, this is becoming a real pain in the ass.
