Default Stupid technical question - please help!

A bushing on the stabilizer bar cracked and fell off recently and I got a new one thinking it would be a simple fix. To my utter disbelief, I simply cannot get the self-locking nut off. I feel so stupid! Does anyone know how to get these things off? It's the type that has a flat, non-threaded top. I tried applying pressure from to bottom of the nut while I turned it, but it didn't seem to do anything. Thanks!

You are not trying to take off the bolt on the inside part of the endlink connected to the sway bar are you. Cause if you are that bolt is connected to the endlink and will not come off. You have to take the bolt off from the other side.

Not sure if this is what you are talking about...
