Default Best Swap?

Hi i'm pretty new to the honda scene, ive been with dsm's for a while though and know how stuff works. A guy around here is selling a 96 ls for about 2k. I'm thinking of getting it. It has 96k miles on and was looking to swap the motor out. I plan on turboing it somewhere down the line so what would be the best motor? Would the B18C1 be the best bet for that?

the best combo of performance and price would be a b18c1.

best swap would be a rebuild since you are going to have to basically rebuild the gs-r to handle any boost over 8psi or so depending on tuning. Just take the ls and rebuild it with forged internals, mainly bottem end since it is the one that is gonna be handeling the boost mainly. If you are looking to spend 2k's on a motor then get the ls sleeved at aebs(talk to westcoaststyle on this board, he will hook you up). Get some stronger rods like eagle h's or something like that and then go with an equal compression or maby even a tad bit higher compression if you would like, no more then .5 psi though. with that setup and the proper fuel and tuning you can get around between 450 to 550 to the wheels with a revhard stage 3 and a lovefab manifold. good luck and post progress if you do it.

keep the LS and throw a B16a head onto it which will make it into a V Tec motor which is what most honda fanatics want...atleast me..you will have to get a couple things done to your block and head, like have a place drill out two places to make it into vtec and then get a oil line to run from the block to the head...that whole proccess only costs 90 bux...if you do that and leave it stock you should have around 179 hp to the wheels, then you would want to rebuild your bottom end because the ls you would be getting has mucho miles on it..dart sleeves, eagle forged rods, JE forged rods, hell maybe even a stroker kit if u can find a nice one with those parts, that will make your 1.8 ltr a 2.0 ltr or somthing close to that...make sure if u do that it comes balanced ( i kno some japanese companys stroker kits come fully balanced and blueprinted.. :P) then upgrade your valve springs due to the upgrade in the lower end, more power stuff breaks easier, titanium retainers, ss/tt valves, turbo cams if your going turbo or some toda/spoon/sk2 cams stage 2or3, you could go N/A and make alot of power, id say atleast 350+ if done correct...and alot of money later..have fun man!

thats jus some the stuff u could do but you can still do alot more....

I've been reading around and alot of people say the LS/Vtec swap is unreliable after a certain amount of miles. Is it really or just hearsay.

Umm...can't swap a K-series into a 96 LS. (without a ton of money laying around)

I would rebuild the bottom end a slap a vtec head on it. It can be reliable if you do it right. If you dont want to go through the hassle, swapping a b18c1 would be the best bet.
