What's worth fixing in a 1996 Integra?
I have a 1996 Integra LS with 106,000 miles. The timing valve broke and the mechanic says he's prety sure the valves would have been damaged when that happened. He's looking at them now and this afternoon, I'll need to make a decision on what to fix.
So, I wanted to see what the opinion the folks in this forum have. If it needs a valve replacement, or a new engine, then is it worth it in a car this old. What repairs/costs would you have done before just scrapping it.
Otherwise, I love the car and I'd want to keep it. I've had no other problems with it in the past 8 years.

Valves are $16 a piece...You have 16 valves so if they are all bad it would cost $256 just in valves..The timing belt ($40) and water pump ($95) need to be replaced too..Also, you'd need a head gasket ($60) too, plus labor for all of it. Thats over $400 just in parts. Labor is whats gonna get you...As RicoD said, I'd do a swap rather than fixing the old engine, if I had the extra money..
Good luck!

Have him put a new timing belt on and do a compression test...
You may be lucky and there could be no damage, how fast was the engine spinning when the timing belt broke?
Other than that it may be time for an engine swap, if you stick with the same engine it wont be that hard. You could also fix the engine, but that will also be expensive, it depends on the extent of the damage, not only could you have a bent vavle but your piston was probably damaged too.
A compression test and a look inside needs to be done before you make many decisions...

ive pulled 2 with broken timing belts apart and neither of them had ANY damage to the head or valves. i have a spare head if you want it, you will have to put the valves and springs back in but the head is perfect. let me know.
definitely worth fixing if the rest of the car is in good shape.
