I was at the gas station the other day, and the gas gauge was litterally sitting on empty, however teh light was not on. So I filled up, and i only got 9.7 gallons in, and the tank was full. That would mean, that while my gas gauge was on empty (no light though), i still had like 3.5 gallons left in my tank. What is faulty on my car? I have just been thinking that i have been getting horrible mileage cause i have only been getting 230 miles per tank, and not realizing how much gas iw as actually putting in.

 

Fuel sensors in these cars are sensitive whenever your car is not on a straight plane. This is normal.

 

but is it gonna be varying by 3.5 gallons?

 

When your fuel lamp goes on, it means you have around two gallons left.

 

for some reason i was afraid my fuel light wasn't working, because the car was flat, and the gauge was sitting directly on empty for a while.

 

I got a 98LS and my gas gauge is beyond gone.... I just know I get ~ 25mpg Sooo...... 13.2 gal x 25 = 330 miles.

I usually fill up around 200 to 225 miles and put in 8 gallons cause looking at the needle on E when i still have 5 gallons left makes me nervous even though I know better lol.
