The fan I'm referring to is the one for the interior heating and cooling fan. The ticking is fan speed dependant (ie it gets faster as i turn up the fan) and not related to engine or vehicle speed. It goes away completely if I shut the fan completely off. It is unrelated to the A/C being on or off.

I used to have this occasionally, and it used to be that i could turn up the fan speed, there'd be one final louder click and the sound would go away for a few weeks. But now it's here permanently.

Any ideas guys? Anything I can fix myself? Something in the vents? Maybe the fan needs lubrication?

 

forgot to mention this is on a 94 hatchback if it matters. totally stock

 

It definately sounds like a problem with the blower motor or squirrel cage.

Maybe you sucked up a leaf or something. I have never opened mine up you you can access it from under the passenger side dash.

 

I got a pine needle stuck in mine, and I had the same symptoms... All it takes to remove is 3 screws and the power plug, and it falls right out. It underneath your glove box and right next to the side of the car. Good luck!
