when i am daily driving at what rpms should i shift at. is it bad to wait for vtec to kick in every time you shift. i seem like i am abusing the enging. i burn oil alot. i think that it has to do with waiting till lik 6000 to shift. please help
I shift around 4000 in normal daily driving. but since i only drive once a week i run it through the gears at least once on that day i.e take it to
8000 in first and second.
You shift when the seat of your pants and your ears (and brain) tell you to. Honestly, I rarely look at my tach unless I'm really getting on it, getting past 7K or so.
Dyno'd my car a while back and I took it to 8600 rpms... Overall peak power on my car at the time (stock R) was at 8100rpms, then from 8100-8600rpms hp died off 3-4-5 hp or so.
In town on the everyday drive, I usually granny shift it from 3-4000 rpms usually. (switched from the Apexi WS to the Apexi N1 now, so any higher RPM's and it'd wake up the dead.)
