Launching at what RPM...
#1
So far, I've found my best results coming from launching at approx. 3500 RPM. Now I know a lot of you on ITRCA prefer more in the 4000~5000 RPM range to "spin into" VTEC. When I try it that high, I find myself getting a lot of wheel hop, or my clutch not grabbing (possibly because I need a new one! ). Anywho, I was wondering what RPM you guys prefer to launch from. Also, I have some crappy Michelein tires, that should be changed...
I guess it's not fair to say that launching at 3500 RPM is optimal, since I have a few handicaps (clutch, and tires), however, I do remember, when I first put the Michelein's on, I still had a better time launching at 3500. Anyway, lemme know what u guys think.

I know it sounds crazy but when I was experimenting this summer at a racetrack between solo events ( we were the organisers) I found that my ITR had its best launches at 8,000rpm.
call me crazy and I know this is tough on the clutch but with my Hoosier a-303 autocross rubber on the car, it would leave 2 black stipes for about 20 feet then hook up and kick me in the pants. The motor never fell out of V-tec power.
For comparison sake, there was another ITR doing the same thing but he was afraid to launch hard so when I finally got the nerve to do 8000rpm side-step starts, I would catapult 2 lenngths in front of him and stay there.
BTW, our ITR's are stock completely and he was launching on his Yoko 032rs.
Crazy but fun....I'll see if I can find a link to a video where I used the technique the next day at the autocross...just to mess people up....

one of my buddies posted a few of the videos taken of me this season...follow the topic and you will see the vids...the launch is not the best of the weekend...but you may enjoy the videos.

Damn bbq, i think you are crazy. I have never heard of a launch at 8000 in an R. I find my best launches near 4000 while slipping the clutch a little bit. I dont know if i have the balls to try a sidestep at 8000, but if you say it works i might try it on the track to see how the 60 ft times compare. do you think i would need drag radials to launch that high, or would falken azenis do alright. thanks for the advice.

I've been getting consistent 2.0 60foots launching at 3500 to 4000 on my turbo car with drag radials and a good burnout. A higher rpm launch would probably help with slicks but only result in wheelspin on other tires.
On street tires I've managed one 2.095 60 foot at the same launch rpm that I use with Drag radials, you probably should not do a burnout with your street tires, or very little if you do.

About the 8000rpm, remember, my motor is bone stock and I run either Hoosier as303 or Toyo RA-1, when I did that shit.
I'm not saying it is the right way, but damn it was faster than any other rpm I tried and the results vs. the other cars was positive. Look for 2 black stipes for about 30feet before there is any hook up....but when it does........BTW, this action may affect the longevity of your clutch......lol
