I know the Type R's performance is "priceless," but what would you consider to be the fair market value for a stock 97-98 Type R with between 25-40k miles?

Kelly Blue Book, NADA and Edmunds have RETAIL price ranges from $15.3 to $17k.

What are others paying? Should I seek a 2000-2001 Type R under factory warrant instead?

All opinions are appreciated.

FOR A 97-98 CHAMP WHITE TYPE R WITH THAT MILAGE EXPECT TO PAY AROUND 18,000 TO 20,000
THOSE ARE THE RAREST OF THE RARE AND BEST COLOR!

FOR A 00-01 LOOK TO PAY AROUND 18,000 TO 22,000 DEPENDS ON WHAT THE SELLER WANTS TO GET.

THIS MAY SEAM HIGH BUT ARE THE GOING RATES FOR A MINT CONDITION CLEAN TITLE R.

GOOD LUCK

See our discussion '... price strategies'. Don't pass on the color you want because of warrantee. Though it's not written in stone, these ARE Hondas, and should be reliable in the long run.

Thanks for the replys.

It seems that the average transaction price for Type R's are far lower than asking prices or estimated values from current owners.

There have been 2 Ebay auctions with 2000-2001 stock Type R's with b/w 22-38k miles that had high bids less than $18,000. In fact, this 2001 PY Type R only had ONE bid!

For those looking to buy a used Type R, this is a bit confusing. The supply of good used Type R's is small, but the market for these cars is very soft.

Here is what I woudl say should be max purchase prices for a potential buyer. This isn't to say if you find one that holds additional value for you based on locations, mods or condition you should not pay a little more.

All would be consdieered with average to low miles.

1997: $16,000
1998: $17,000
2000: $19500
2001: $20,000

These are just rough estimates. YOu can easily find deals but mostly on 2000.2001 and not the older ones.

I would value your car at 16-17k.

Well i would pay more money for a 97 sence theres not that many left..
1997 are more of a car you buy to put in the garage and Store it.. and only bring it out for shows that you trailer it there and back... there kinda like the Shelby Gt500 of the import late 90's ... only so many made and hard as hell to find and not that cheap to buy..

If you like the look of the outdated 94-97 front end that is great

97's definitely carry the rareest title but I love the 98 for the loks and color.
