opionions on this setup for a 00 type r?
#1
well after checking out websites and chat rooms and talking to aj here on itrca, i decided to go all motor with this setup. all opionions are welcome and any suggestions are appreciated.
skunk 2 valves
skunk 2 valve springs
skunk 2 ti retainers
ferrea valve guides
ferrea valve seals
ferrea valve spring seats
skunk 2 stage 2 cams
skunk 2 cam gears
skunk 2 camshafts
comptech 2.5 free flowing exhaust
hytech header
comptech air box
je pistons 12.8:1
eagle rods
energy suspension motor mount inserts
prelude injectors
aem fuel rail
aem fuel pressure regulator
walboro fuel pump
mugen thermostat
bosch plugs
magnacore wires
mugen head gasket
act clucth and pressure plate
7.5lb aluminum flywheel
hondata 2b
what do you guys think this might net me in horsepower?
also what times do you think i might be able to see in my r?
the body of my r is totally stock and full interior.

Well, for starters, if you're getting JE 12.8:1 pistons, you should definitely NOT be running a thinner head gasket, otherwise you'll put your compression over 13:1, number one, number two, a thinner head gasket is much more likely to blow with that kind of compression and those kind of temps, and unless you want to be running race gas all the time, you don't want your compression that high. The most you want to go is like 12.8:1, but use an OEM Honda gasket, not an aftermarket, unless it's like a cometic that's stock thickness or something.
Another thing, when you get the pistons, make sure you take some very fine grit sand paper, and sand down all the edges on the dome and recesses of the piston, this will hopefully keep it from detonating. One thing that you'll notice, unlike your stock pistons, JE's have very machined, sharp edges, that aren't great for flow or detonation.
With that type of compression, you'll also want to back up your timing some, somewhere in the area of like 14-15 degrees (16 is stock).
Also, this one is just as important, Skunk2 valves, are flat valves rather then concave, so they will also not be good to use with 12.8:1 compression pistons, the ones I use, and would recomend highly are Ferrea, either that, or use Skunk2 and just get lower compression pistons, same thing goes for the mugen head gasket, if you really want to spend the extra money, just get pistons that aren't as high in compression. As far as head gaskets go, I'm just not big on chaging the deck height and valve clearance.
Keep in mind, the things that affect compression the most are:
Wrist pin height in piston
Valve cavity, or lack of
Piston design/dome height
and Head gasket thickness
Those are the main things you need to worry about. Otherwise, your setup sounds pretty bad ass, and I'll be looking forward to hearing about it when it's done. As far as Hp, you sound like you'll be right in the low 200 range, probably between 210-220. And, you're not interested in the times I'll quote you, because they'll be lap times at race tracks around the country, sorry, no quarter mile times from me.
Good luck,
Aj

Thats a start, but I would seek some one very knowledgable about all motor in your local area that is willing to build your motor, and that will know all the do's and don'ts of all motor, not jsut someone who slaps on turbos for a living.
Good luck, Later!

yea go with the stock head gasket and sand down those slugs...you can get the skunk valves with the flat top or dished (concave)...i went with the entire skunk 2 head (with stage 3 cams) minus the intake manifold. your compression is fine for pump gas w/ the hondata as long as you have a good tuner
