Default Tranny fluid... O crap

Ok well i just bought my teg and when doing a tune up i decided to change the tranny fluid. So i go down and buy some fluid and when I take out the drain plug, about half an OUNCE comes out...theres suposed to be about 3 quarts in there... So in disbelief i poured some new tranny fluid in with the drain plug still out...poured right though...

Who knows how long this has been like this, but I filled it up took about 2.8 quarts and it feels better now

I never had any noises in the tranny, was never hard to shift, no grinding, nothing...

HOW in the hell did my tranny not die?!?!

Can anyone explain to me how a tranny would survive with that much oil in it, and if it is OK now that i have fluid in it and its acting just fine (especially since it has 200k miles on it)

Thanks

Luck dude. I drove (Lord Forgive Me For What I Am About To Say) a Mustang for six months with a half of quart of oil trying to tear it up. No dice. Girlfriend is still driving it (With Oil now)

I'm surprised your transmission stayed in gear. I wonder if you opened your transmission up now, how much metal shavings you'd find on your magnet.

I dont know how to, nor have the time to break it down, i am going to keep flushing it with fluid every 100 miles or so and place a magnet on the drain bolt to see if i can get all the shavings out, but it is still shifting smooth and running great. I heart my honda

When I bought my 92RS, I got a great deal because the 3rd gear grinded and 5th gear was a bear to get into. After I bought the car ($1100), I checked the tranny fluid and found about half a quart. After refilling with Honda MTF, all is well, no grinds and 5th is easy to shift into again. Lucky me also

The last time I drove around with no trans oil, I blew my countershaft input gear and was left with a trans that only worked in fourth. I had just bought the car and was meaning to check the oil level, but it blew before I had the chance. Don't know how long it was like that, probably the whole 5k miles I had it and then some.
