CV shaft... does it split?
The main half shaft that runs from the drivers side of the transmission and has the carrier bearing splits right? it splits after the carrier bearing...
If it is supposed to split, but it wont, what is causing it not too, and how can i get it to split?
this is the last thing holding me up with the alternator changing job i am doing, and its really frustrating.

If you are asking if the intermediate shaft and axle can seperate, then that is correct. You'll need to first remove the axle from the driver-side hub and then pry it out of the intermediate shaft with a lot of leverage and a pry-bar.

yes it splits...but for god's sake, do not pull on the axle from the hub!!!! you'll pull the carrier bearing apart. I've pulled my axles many times and have done it before. you'll have to pull from the point where the axle exits the intermediate shaft.

OH NO. Now I read this.
I tried and tried to get the left axle out. Including pulling on the hub end. I could not get anything out. The other axle I got out.
I finally took the axle support brace loose from engine and the whole axle came out. Got the clutch changed and putting everything back.
Now when I go to reconnect the hub, the axle seems about 2" too long. I think I messed up the carrier bearing. I can pull out on the shaft/axle and turn it 1/4 turn and it will go back in. But it doesn't go in any further.
I've got two questions. First, does the axle actually seperate into two pieces? Second, if I seperated the carrier bearing, how can I get it back together?
