Default my situation...

i have a 94 gsr and her timing belt popped. so i'm tihnking about putting in a 98+ jdm b18c5. will i have to switch out the wiring harness for this?

Im pretty sure you can use your 94 gsr wiring harness, The 98 jdm C5 isn't obdII right? Correct me if im wrong but i think ur 94 gsr will work.

98 itr is obdII i think, from 96 and up its obdII.

I have no idea about the harness though

yeah 98 itr is obd2, and the package comes with the ecu, but i'm just worried about the wiring harness...

I don't know for sure, but I am fairly confident you'll need to update your wiring harness with one from an OBDII car.

My question is this: Why not rebuild your B18C1? If your original head is mulched, buy a replacement head from another dead GS-R and spend your money on the build-up of your choice... a 2.0L high-comp stroker GSR motor with mild cams would be my choice.

It seems like a hell of a lot of work (to convert to an OBD-2 JDM motor) for relatively little gain.

The simple fact is the cost of a Type-R swap is enough that you can get better performance out of a GSR motor and some mods.

hey FB, what are the chances that my head didn't suffer any damage? also, what are the odds that my pistons are still ok? i mean, if all i need to do is pick up a used head i'd rather do that. she only needs to last me another couple years...

I'm assuming "popped" means snapped.

Most Honda motors including the B-series are an interference design, which means the valves and pistons occupy the same space at different times. If the timing belt breaks then the valve(s) smack into the piston(s) which can cause any number of problems from a bent valve or two, to torn up pistons, sleeves, combustion chambers, what have you.

Does the car still run at all? You haven't said yet if the motor is fixable and it sounds like you haven't had it looked at yet so there's no real way for us to assess the extent of the damage. It's possible you haven't messed it up too bad.
