Default Is this worth it??

I am looking at a 1991 integra GS hatch...

It has some issue but the lady lowered the price to $1500...here are the problems:

-3rd and 5th gear syncros are bad, i will have to swap the tranny...500 for a 'new' used tranny

-Need new tires

-Engine has little oil leak, probably head gasket, can do myself over the weekend...

-And somthing is up with the enviromwent controls, they tell me its 150 to fix...

Is it worth it?

How many miles? Original owner? Any accidents/straight body?

It could be an ok fixer-upper, but I like to take a few other factors into consideration when I'm buying a car. I'd rather spend closer to 4-5k and get something that will be trouble-free for years to come.

But again, it depends on what you want to do with the car. Daily driver? Weekend racer?

Depending on what you use it for, it could be ok, but sounds like it had an abusive owner or bad shifter/driver or both from the description you give.

But for 1500 not TOO bad. If you can get her down to 1k, I'd say probably go for it.

(BTW, you're signature is fawkin' funny. )

What is the car worth in good condition? What is your total cost after you get it to good condition? That woudl be my judge.

BTW, headgaskets rearly leak oil. Typically they leak water but not outward.

then what would be the most common oil leak, what should i look for so i know where its comin from, cuz i cant see any, but the mechanic says it leaks oil...

its got 150k miles, i would like to buy a 5k car, but i just dont have that kind of money, i got 3k to deal with here...so i think i can buy this one and get it to really good condition for 3k...

In good condition its worth about 3k...she was selling it for 2900, i found all these problems when i had it checked out, and she came down to 1500, i serously doubt she will come down any farther...

I would guess valve cover gasket or cam seals. Next oil leak likely places are oil pan gasket or rear main seal.

That's the most common stuff.

All of those sound desently ok...except for the rear main seal, wouldnt that have an effect on the clutch, making it not work if that was leaking though??

All the other sound like i could fix um...

Hmm, with 3k in mind... I think you could get it in good condition for that.

OR

Just look around for a trouble-free 90-93 LS/GS/RS. I'm sure that a 5 minute autotrader.com search would turn up something better, if it means travelling a couple hours to get it, it's time you aren't spending trying to get that one to run.

Just my two cents.

Rear main would likely cause a clutch issue but doesn't have to. Rear main is behind the flywheel. Depends on how bad the leak is. ALso rear main is easy to change if you have the tranny out.

i paid 1200 for my 94 ls with no problems but i know i got lucky... i think for the way that car sounds, you can do better. see if you can get her down to a grand. the oil leak could be the cam plug, 19.99 gets you an STR replacement that looks cooler than stock and is supposed to last longer

That's too much I think, Anyone where I live can pick one up for 1k or less with the problems you've described. I think I would rebuild the tranny and save myself the extra money. The enviromental controls? what r u talking about smog? or the a/c heater? the oil problem could be put off for the short term...
