I've failed emissions twice now and am trying to avoid buying a new cat seeing as that im broke. I have failed twice now because i am producing too much NO by about 300 or so. Any suggestions? I know its prolly my cat, but any tricks you guys know of? I did an induction service hoping that might clena out my system but it was of no luck. It's a 95 GSR so i'm pre-odb2, if you kno where i could get a cheap cat lemme know that as well. PLEASE HELP ME!

Oh, just as a reference point, MSRP on a new stock cat is $760.

 

NIce price. I just did smog. Ran the cleaner stuff through a tank of gas, changed the plugs and the oil and voila. Did you change your oil just before the test? That is apparently very helpful

 

i failed first time when i put in new plugs, wires, oil and cleaned my air filter, but i barely missed

i said f*ck it and paid to have a new high flow carsound cat put in and did a oil change and some crap i got a autozone (cleaner crap) and i passed

mines a 95 also (best year woot)

 

I was looking on ebay and have found carsound and magnaflow cat converters for around 50 bucks, but they're universal. Any experiences on making a universal cat fit? How hard? easy? general advice? BTW what size is our catalytic converter? I wasn't sure but i was assuming 2"

 

if your nox is too high, try spraying a mist of water in the intake lil by lil to reduce the temp of your engine. when the engine temp is too high, it will automatically produce extra nox. a swap of the cat should help too if u need a new cat to begin with. of course, this is if you KNOW the smog shop...if not, theyre not going to do this for you obviously.

You need to have flanges welded on to mate with the header and midpipe, and a bung for the oxygen sensor if your stock cat has one. A muffler shop should be able to do it for ya.

How much would that run me if i went to midas or some other local muffler shop? What would be the range? I keep finding Universal Carsound Magnaflow Converters on ebay for about $45, which is real cheap. And they offer to send it with or without the airtube, should i request the airtube or not?

 

the hard part is getting the flanges welded on
i got mines installed and made for liek 150 total
and your car is obd1 so they wont trip on your getting a universal cat (if you go that route, my shop had the carsound in stock) cuz there is no o2 sensor bung to weld
