Default not impressed with 712's

i know it is cold here and hopefully that is the only problem but i bought a set of mesh wheels with kumho supra 712's with only 4k on em... they drive like plastic.... rolling burnouts (with only my ws exhaust for mods) they slip on hard braking, and i can feel the car slide on curves (sure there is some sand on the road, im hoping that is also a factor)

somebody that has driven these tires in warm and cold weather please tell me they arent this bad? hopefully they were just too cold or there was too much sand because i dont wanna think that these tires wont ever please me.

I drove mine in dry, rain, sleet, warm, hot, cold, ice snow...

I was happy with the dry and wet grip no matter the temperature to be honest. They are unusable in the snow/ice. Wear has been great, except once they are worn in they get so ridiculously loud. I wont buy them again because of that.

In terms of grip...Im happy. Did you try playing with your tire pressure?

nah, i just got them on and took them for a rip.... i have to get my abs checked, the light comes on when the outside temp is cold... seems to be okay on decent days - not that we've had a decent day in central NY since october or maybe november.

the guy that i bought them from told me they are garbage in the snow and i am okay with that because my shitty bald nitto's were worthless in wet or snow so as long as they arent worse than the nittos, im fine with them.

what do you recommend for PSI?

I've found the wet traction to be unpredictable. They slide when they want to and catch grip all of a sudden. Havent had a problem with dry traction yet.

I just checked tirerack.com. The 712 is listed #12 out of 45 Ultra High Performance Summer Tires, in the tire survey. Much closer to the top than the bottom! Interesting that the 712 is the most popular tire, in terms of "total miles reported".

It's fun to read through the reviews, to see other folks' experiences. "Great tire for the price" seems to be the overall feel.... :goodjob:

PS I have ES100s, so no personal experience from me.... sorry.

the Z-rated 712s are way better than the V-rated 712s. the tread is even "slightly" different.

I dunno... if I were to get Kuhmos... I'd spring for the Ecsta MXs though

It's got the most reported miles because they are so cheap. They are ok tires for the money but this woudl then bring up, you get what you pay for and for just a bit more money you get a LOT more tire. The ES100 is WAY better than the 712. The Kumho MX and Falken Azenis are far suprior tires.

Also note that 12 out of 45 does not capture tire brands Tire Rack doesn't sell.

well here is an update: after driving with these tires for a couple more days on a variety of roads and conditions, i am much happier with them. they do suck on my driveway which is covered in snow and ice but once i hit the street with them, im satisfied. it will be interesting to see how they perform in the rain - ive heard mixed reviews but mostly people like them on wet roads. now i just wish winter would go away
