Please do not use paint. It will chip and look awful in time. I'd strongly recommend having them stripped and powdercoated. It's not too expensive and the result is much more consistent and durable than paint alone.
The only potential downside with powdercoating is that the tires will have be taken off the rims. The powdercoating process will take the better part of a day at least...so plan on 2 days w/o the rims...

If I had a digicam, I'd run out and take pics now... black GS-R wheels on a red car would be sweet...
And while powdercoating is nicer and will last longer, it costs around $100-150 a wheel... and it cost me $22 after buying extra paint and sandpaper to do all 4 wheels on my car
