JDM vs. Ricer
#11
welcome class.
RICE=loud exhaust(without turbo), rattling trunk(too cheap to invest in dynomat), chrome altezzas, neons, big a** aluminum wings, hood pins(on a stock hood), the list goes on....so basically a ricer is someone who puts everything they make for their car on it, thus making it look tacky and cheap.
JDM=all jdm means is that it comes stock on a jdm honda(since acura is non-existent in japan). a lot of features that come on jdm integras are better than american integras. for instance, the console, the front end(looks kind of like an accord, but prettier). so JDM is in no way rice, some ricers may apply it to their car just for looks on the interior, but hey, its their money.
class dismissed.

The definition of "rice" has been pretty well covered here so I am going to stay away from that.
As for "JDM" I think a lot of people are sick of it because it is so damn common where they are from...especially out on the West Coast. However here on the East Coast JDM parts are extremely rare and almost non-existent. One thing I like about buying OEM JDM ITR parts for my car is that nobody I know has them.
I like modding cars, but I also like the clean OEM look as well. It is nice to know that my car is different from everyone elses that is lowered with rims and a body kit, and when we have meets here in CT I have parts on my car that noone else has.

This thread has the potential to get out of hand but for now I'll keep it open.
JDM is yet another style that people have turned into a huge bandwagon and blown up because that is the nature of people who modify cars for a hobby and/or living. It always happens.
If something is only available in Japan and is a noticeably better part than the US-spec version then I can sort of see the point, same deal if a particular aftermarket item is only sold in Japan. But stuff like swapping to a gauge cluster that has the wrong odometer reading and a speedometer that reads in km/h (just as an example) strikes me as monumentally stupid.

Anything you do that is based on what is "hot" or "trendy" at the time is lame. Huge bodykits, yellow and red paint, big wheels, all considered *hot* at one point in time. Now JDM is considered hot. All "ricey" to me.
Just do what you want, dont worry about whats jdm or rice or cool.

Just because you do not agree with it does not mean it is "monumentally stupid"!

Obviously I've hit a nerve and this is exactly what I meant when I said this thread has the potential to get out of hand. Relax.
