Default Timing belt and water pump

My 97 gsr has about 89K on it and I guess it is time to do the timing belt. How much should I pay for the job? Or how much should I pay for the timing belt and the water pump? Also does anyone have any sites that show how to do it yourself?
Thanks

If you are going to take it somewhere, labor alone (no parts) should cost about $200 - $250. If you look hard enough, you can find parts at wholesale prices (OEM parts) for about $175ish. Tell the shop that you want them to do just the labor and you are going to bring in your own OEM parts. Some shops will not let you do this, others will charge you a fee to bring in your own stuff, but if you look hard enough, you should be able to find a reputable shop that will do it. At the end of the day it should cost about $400 - $425. On the other end of the specturm, if you just take it to the dealer to do it, it will cost you about $650 to $750 for the same stuff (parts and labor), or you can take it to a local/small shop and have it done for about $500 - $600. As you can see, if you have a little time to do some legwork getting parts at a discount, and making a few phone calls, you can save yourself some money..........or you can just do it yourself if you know what you are doing.

I just got my timing belt/water pump, etc. done on my 99 for about $420.

This is an opportunity to save an incredible amount of money by doing it yourself. If you have a weekend and some mechanical aptitude then it should be fairly easy. Previous to doing my own timing belt and water pump I had only done as much as brakes. If you need any help during the process you can always come here and ask.
