should my car burn oil????????????????????????????

 

i mean my new b18c1 engine burns about a quart, ( i estimate ) about every thousand miles, is this normal???

 

Burning oil is not good, if that answers your question. How many miles does your engine have on it

 

And why is this thread in the type r section?

 

it's a relatively new engine, hmotorsonline says they have roughly 17k miles on it. it doesn't blow smoke or nething, nor does it leak any. i was just wondering if it's normal, also, that lucas oil stuff, will that help at all?

I think we'd have to see the smoke to gauge how bad a sign it is.

A lot of ITR smoke for a very long time before something actually breaks.

People can cause smoking and burning in an otherwise healthy motor by changing to synthetic oil or back to dino oil, too.

My own ITR smoked for a whole year before it finally burned a piston.

 

17k seems a bit exsesive to be still breaking in!!, Id suggest bumping your engine oil up to 10w40 oil. that should slow/stop the burning. Also are you revving the car up real high while the engine is cold?, that can also be a factor for it burning oil.

 

How often do you spend reving the engine after VTEC kicks in? You will burn oil a lot quicker this way.

 

Remember that an OEM ITR motor is at max HP at 8000 RPM, and people are going to be shifting between 8000 and 8400 on a stock motor.

Honda's recommendation of 5w30 is predicated on the engine's characteristics, and you should please make absolutely sure you know what you're doing if you're going to change viscosity and increase the oil pressure.

Switching to a higher viscosity oil to prevent burnoff is only a temporary solution to what could be a serious problem.
