DVPGRS,

The most noticable advantage to larger rotors is better heat dissipation and fade resistance on the brake pads. Larger rotors will not help in better or shorter stopping distances.

If you still decide to go with the AEM Big Brake Upgrade be sure to know that you can not use your stock rims or your spare tire after the kit has been installed. This is because of brake caliper clearance when the brake caliper is relocated to a higher mounting position. So if you have a flat tire, bent rim, etc. this is where Triple A services or some kind of tow service package comes into play.

If your opposed to bigger size rims such as 17s or higher than the AEM kit is not for you. AEM suggest rims bigger or atleast 17s with a high offset for brake caliper clearance.

It seems small lightweight rims are in now. As of now, I have 18in Advan Kreuzer Series 5 rims weighing at only 17lbs per rim and I need bigger rotors to improve the looks. I only upgraded to bigger size rotors for the bling factor but added some kind of improvement in braking/stopping distances. What I need is better tires to really know the differences.

Anyway I am keeping the stock rims for now...I am a real fan of OEM looking cars...I will not be doing any autocross and it will be a while b4 I get to 300+ HP.

Thanks for the help...now that HAN is back up I will check out those links.

Fatbooty...thanks for weighing in...your comments are always appreciated.

TIA
Oh haha

For a moment I thought your name was TIA but I should have known it meant THANKS IN ADVANCE. Sorry man.

Yeah, I'm a fan of OEM, JDM, or clean & simple looks. Really not into those aggressive/wild bodykits, stickers, etc. kinda rides. Don't get me wrong, there are those cars that look nice but it just don't tickle my pickle.

Hawk HPs are intended for road racing competition and in order for the Hawk pads to work they must be used a lot in order to build up enough heat/friction to actually work! Sure Hawks HPs are for street use but what they really meant to say is street competition use.
Come on, you have got to be kidding. Hawk HPS stands for "High Performance Street." They're not track pads. They can stand up to a bit of abuse but they're designed to be used on a daily driver. Hawk HP+ are a street/semi-race pad which do need to be heated up a bit to reach maximum friction.

bigger/slotted/cross-drilled rotors will only help dissipate heat but will not help improve braking. Slotted/Cross-Drilled only helps prevent premature brake pad fading. That is all. No kind of improvement in braking, stopping distance, etc.
Larger rotors do dissipate heat better. Like I've already said, they also move the caliper further away from the wheel center which gives more braking torque for the same given clamping force. Rotors are slotted or cross-drilled not to dissipate heat but to dissipate the gas that builds up between some pads and the rotor. Thing is most pads nowadays don't gas enough to warrant the holes or slots.

Unless you're absolutely positive what you're saying is correct, don't front like an encyclopedia when someone corrects you.

I have also heard that Hawks HP pads are too aggressive for street driving; I am running Axxis pads on my fronts and they perform well for the street and decently on the track (just did Thunderhill last friday)

I would say Axxis is a step above the AEM pads as an OEM replacement brake pad for daily driving.
