Default Problem not IACV but...FITV – Fast Idle Thermo Valve

I beleive my FITV is messed up in some way.

Reason: Car idles jump from 1k - 2k cold or warm weather.
Reason i beleive the IACV is good: Took it off cleaned, didnt work, took it off put a b16a one on there...didnt work, now my main reason why i dont beleive its the IACV and i beleive it is the FITV because it didnt throw a check engine light and w/ the sensor being there, wouldnt you guys think it would throw a check engine light on the IACV?

I have a 95 gsr supercharged, i beleive the FITV is under the throttle body. Anybody know an easy way of getting this bad boy off? How do i know if its bad or what not?

Im tired of my car surging =)

Thanks
-Jason

IACV will not throw a CEL. But if you put a 2nd one on and no change then it could be the FITV. they aren't cheap...let me find the location pic for you...

FITV is cake...3 10mm bolts facing the ground. It is under the TB.

Make sure the bolt on the end is completely tight. I wrapped mine up in duct tape and bolted it back in. Ideally, you would like to completely eliminate it from the process.

Do you mean you blocked the three large openings with duct tape?

I'm thinking this device is more my problem than IAC. I get fast idle when its cold, but takes a long time to come down. I have also noticed that temp gauge never reaches middle posistion. Morel ike only 1/3rd from cold end. Car is new to us, radiator was replaced before we got it and supposedly the thermostat. Actually, now I'm thinking thermostat may be in wrong, or even missing.

Where should temp gauge needle normally sit at normal oparting temp?

Mine's just over a third of the way. Between 1/3 and 1/2 is pretty standard for integras.

Yep...right before halfway is normal. And yes, I blocked the 3 openings.

Does your car run colder when you are moving?

Yes, it runs colder when moving. I did another tet last night, started the car from cold and kept my hand on top radiator hose. It gradually warmed up, rather than suddenly warming as I would expect it would if thermo was closed and then opened after temp was up. So I think its off to part store tonight. I make temp work properly and then see where I am with FITV.
