GS-R Engine Swap
#11
A loan is unfortuantely out of the question for many reasons. I know I will have the desire to mod the G2 if I get it. I prolly will mod it. I don't know. I have to do something soon tho, which will prolly be me buying a $2500 G2 and modding it. I will EVENTUALLY buy a GSR, but it might be a WHILE (Like a freaking year). I'll let you know how it goes, I might even get a few VINs, if anybody minds running them for me... Talk to you soon.

Buy a $500 pice of crap and the absolute least amount of insurance you can find. You'll have transportation without too much cost and you won't have the urge to buy parts for it. You want the GSR, so spend the least amount of money possible until you can afford what you really want.

It looks like I might be able to save for a little while longer. I will try to make it to 4K, but I don't know. I was wrong on the estimate of my money ($2500), I only have 2k . It's ok though, I am selling everything of value to me and will have 3K within a month or two. I wouldn't have a problem with an LS or GS, but it would have to be fairly nice. Who knows, maybe by that time I will have gained more patience. I'll tell ya now, this whole thing is really killing me patience wise. I think I can do it in that concern, but the other concern is the necessity of NEEDING a car. I know it was suggested to buy a cheap car, but I am scared to do that. My previous $2500 car didn't even last a year, so I think a $500 would die alot sooner. Would 4K be enough for a good car, or should I just go all out and buy the G3 GSR? Thanks!

Well I can just give you my opinion in your situation. I am in the same boat as you...I have a G2 with 156K, and I am looking to swap the engine out with a G3 1.8GSR engine. Dont get me wrong, the LS engine is a pretty powerful and sturdy engine, and it is ideal for adding modifications to it; but the only problem is the high mileage. That b18 will last forever if treated right, but once you hit it with forced induction, you will most likely blow the engine. For that reason, definetely just swap the engine out. If you keep that engine and turbo it, the internals will have to be beefed up if you want to add turbo. Also, as with any car that has over 90K miles, it would be wise to completely rebuild your motor. I have asked around about rebuild prices, and to be honest...You are better off just swapping the 150K engine for a new engine. The bottom line is this..If you buy the G2, you will not be dissapointed.......so just buy it now, so you will have transportation.......and keep saving money until you can actually swap the engine out !
