bad gas mileage
a few days ago i adjusted the valves, and changed the , thermostat, cap, rotor, wires, fuel filter, and the car seems to be getting no so good of gas mileage. i topped off the gas tank til gas was pouring out and now its at half tank and the trip meter is at about 127 miles. the performance of the car is seemingly perfect. the only thing other than the bad gas mileage is somtimes when the car is just about all the way warmed up if i rev it up a little when the revs drop it goes like 2-300 rpm under where idle is supposed to be for a second or two then raises back up. the only thing i didnt get to do is set the timing because i dont have a light, and i am getting that done tomorrow. what do you think i should look into?

get a filter recharger for your intake and clean that off, and make sure you spray the oil back on. that helped add a few mpg to mine. i dont know if the timing messes gas mileage up or not.
oh and the recharger can be found at autozone or a place like that. premium gas is expensive (not that bad but still)and we want to get as many mpg as we can

uh- not that much vtec usage. it is all city driving tho, but i seemed to get better mileage before the tune. the plugs i didnt change but i changed then about 2 months ago (bosch platinum) u was gonna change them again but 16 bucks a plug for ngk is costly

Oh, for chrissake Shas-
Did you change all of those components in one session? You must've felt lucky. That can make for some tricky troubleshooting. If I was to ever install that many new parts, especially in the ignition system, I'd do only a couple at a time, making sure that everything's copasetic under the hood, then do more. I know it took a while for the drop in fuel economy to be noticed, but I definitely wouldn't have adjusted the valves at that time too. I think that's your culprit in the increased fuel consumption. There may be a couple valves that are opening too much. How did you verify TDC when doing the valves? Did you recheck each valve's clearance after tigthening the adjuster (sorry, had to ask)? For how long did the engine cool before checking their adjustment? I know people who actually let the engine sit overnight to be sure the engine's cool before doing that job.
Re: getting the timing done tom'w- The valve adjustment is going to have to be absolutely correct first, then set the timing PLEASE.
Good luck, let us know how you made out,

so i just got back got my timimng set , the shop said it was 4 degrees off so we shall see how she does now, the engine was cold cold cold when i did all of the work on it including the valve adjustment and i put a 1/4 inch entention in the cylinders to make sure it was at TDC. i went by the instructions on some website, im about 99% sure the valves vere adjusted precisely. i dont know if 4 degrees is a lot to be off but the car sure does sound a little bit different at hing rpms, i cant really get on it cuz its pouring out right now but seems good.
