Default Coilovers?

I don't know jack about these things and I was wondering if I still need to get shocks if I install coil overs. Also, what kind should I get for a 95 GSR and do you guys even recommend getting any? If I don't get coil-overs then I'm going to get Spoon progressives. Thanks

You don't necessarily have to get new shocks when you get coilovers, it's just that's it's recommended because in due time, your stockers would blow due to the lower ride height.

As for recommendations, people here seem to like either Ground Controls or Skunk2's. These are the more popular "sleeve" coilovers that just slip over your shock. If you're looking for a true coilover, you could get the Teins or JIC or something of that nature.

Get the spoon springs they are made to work with stock shocks (at least on itr's) and give a real good drop.

yes Random Task is right. The stock shocks will work for a while. How long they last will depends on a few facts. One is how much life is left on them currently and secondly how low your car is lowered and what the spring rates are on the coilovers. The shocks will be working overtime to compensate for the higher compression as well as the shorter room of movement.

Shocks affect the handling of your car much more than springs do. If you're really looking to dial in the ride height then go for the coilovers but since you have springs already I would first replace your shocks with some performance ones.

Sorry, I'm a moron. I knew that a shock upgrade is needed when the car gets lowered. I just didn't know if coilovers came with shocks or if they replaced them with something that is coilover specific. I just worded my question wrong. Thanks for your help. Either way, you guys answered my question. I ordered some ground controls yesterday.

Full coilovers like Tein's do. Ground Controls do not as you must now know since you ordered a set. What shocks are you going to get?
