Synchros are like little clutches. When you press the lever towards the gear, the hub & the baulk ring come together at a cone-shaped surface. If it's too slippery, then the synchro has a harder time getting the gear spinning to match the hub.
What's wrong with Honda MTF? Or even GM Synchromesh?? May as well use something that's made for synchronized transmissions.

Can i buy honda MTF on the shelf somwhere, or maybe just BUY some from the dealer? cuz i dont want to pay them to change it but i would change it to honda stuff if i could ge tmy hands on some...where can i get it?
And why would i want to do that anyways, my manual says to use motor oil...so why not use a good motor oil? whats the difference between oil and MTF?

Walk into the parts department & buy it. Or mailorder it from your favorite place like manhonda.com or hondaautomotiveparts.com
Honda didn't come out with MTF until '96 or '97. The owner's manual for my '95 GS-R says motor oil. But MTF worked better for me.
But more important - it sounds like the synchro is just working properly. Try double-clutching to shift into 1st at a little faster road speed. Or don't. Why do you want to do that anyway?

OK. i forgot about how they didnt come out with it till after my car was made, but is there any risk in hurting the tranny by using it? And i ask about shifting into first at high speeds becasue like my freind, when he knows hes coming to a stop, but for a short time, like a 4-way stop sign, he will shift into first when aproching the intersection. Thats why i would want to do it. BUT its not a big deal, only a few seconds out of my life

My Civic does that when its colder outside, until the motor warms up. I've replaced the tranny fluid with spec SAE 30, not 5W30. Still does it. I just figured it was synchros wearing out, so I warm up alittle longer and take the first few shifts easy, then its fine for the rest of shifting.
Let us no what fluid you end up with and the results.

I have worn syncros and had a problem with shifting into gears. So I tried Motor oil but that didn't help that much, so I switch to Mobil 1 ATF, which worked better. So far my tranny hasn't had any further problems, expect it is a little stiff during start up.
