hey guys im new here... i just got a 1990 integ GS yesterday... it was missing passenger window and a few minor cosmetics. i got all that fixed today. but i was wondering... sumtimes when i get to higher RPM's and shift... theres a little grinding noise, my friend said he had the same problem until he got a new clutch... is that the case or could it be that the tranny is about to go?

btw... it has 140k miles, other than the grinding there is no major problems

It can very well be you synchros in your transmission. The only way to fix it is to have the transmission rebuilt, or replaced! Not a cheap process either way.

 

Though, first, I'd try flushing the tranny and putting a little Honda MTF in there...

And, with older cars, the syncros go bad... Mine's getting a little "friction" too when I shift, with no audible grind, but it doesn't quite slip into gear like it should...

 

just save and replace...youd have to do it sooner or later...get a nice little racing clutch:thumbup:

 

Synthetic tranny fluid may help, it is smoother than the stock stuff, but a bit more expensive

 

thx for all the advice... tomorrow i'll flush the tranny and see how that works out. i just came back from barstow and now i live with my friend in SD, so i gotta get a job this week down here and start savin. so just by getting a new clutch it should solve the problem... or better just to replace whole tranny? once again thx for ur guys help... im not too smart bout my car YET!
