Default A/C Mount: Bolts Snap

Hey guys,

I have a B16 swap, for the past year, one of the bolts on the A/C mount snapped-- 3 times. The first time it snapped, we drilled out the bolt then put in another one.

*Note that when my motor was swapped, the additional A/C mount that bolts to the chassis was not put in.

2nd time, the tensionor pulley bolt snapped. Finally we replaced the entire mount and this time included the A/C mount that connects to the chassis.

Today I drove about 60 mi with the A/C on and the same bolt snapped on the upper A/C mount on the motor. It dragged the A/C belt down and it shifted the power steering belt off and it cut off.

I have heard of other people having problems with the bolts in the mount snapping...

Any idea's what's causing it?

Thanks guys!

too much tension on the belt assembly or the bolts werent tightened down properly and with the tension and vibrations they snapped this was happening to my starter because the internal threads were stripped, but id strongly suggest checking that the belt deflection is set correctly and not too tight.

Solution: remove AC. Gain horsepower. :exnbp:

Which mount are you using? Del Sol?

Hey guys, thanks for the suggestions.

I finally figured out the problem, much thanks to the people at Full Throttle Performance.

The problem lies in:

The A/C Compressor was from my old D15 motor, but it is unsure whether it was OEM or a dealer installed option, so it varies.

The Bracket we used was for a B16 JDM motor. It bolts on with 4 bolts. The compressor has mounting points for 3 of those. I went through 2-3 B16 brackets and they all vary depending on the year. The bracket I need is from a 1994 Del Sol Si, BUT even those brackets vary.

So the problem was a combination of either the bolts were tightened too much, the bracket wasn't fully mounted, and that the tensioner had too much pressure.

Thanks and I'll update so that others can get some info.
