Default B16B....How good is it?

Just a qeustion......the b16b (CTR) has 185hp and 118 lbs/tq....why do i see more b18 & b16a swaps than b16b. More power than both. Is it because of compression for peeps who want turbo or the $4,000 price tag on it. Just wondering. I want to do swap but B16B seems like it got more power and potential......but i dunno. :dunno:

cause for $4k you could get a b18c and have money left over for other things. its like why people choose a b18c1 over a b18c5

I have a b16b in my 97 Civic Ex and I love it. I got a good deal on it, so I bought it. I paid 3800 for it. Thought about a b16a or a b18c1 but the price was not that much of a difference. For the most part b16a2 run about 3000 and b18c1 run about 3500. The thing is everybody has b16a's and b18c1's. I'd rather pay 300-800 get more power and be different and rare. Just my opinion.

The only guy I have ever met with a b16b in his hatch had tons and tons of emissions control problems. I guess that's why that motor never went into a production car here in the us.

You buy it online or in your area? Did it come with axles, tranny, and ecu?

b16a1 comes from crx sir, b16a2 comes from del sol top model, most ppl are stretching when they put a new engine in their car, plus some engines are just easier to swap over, i could spend 2400 for an h22 to put in my rex instead of a 1300 dollar b16 and have 40 more hp, but then again itd be a pita to get it all installed and i dont want to do all the work, so id rather go with a smaller hp engine and have the extra money to do something with suspension, looks, turbo, etc. also uve got to look at compression rates, the b series engines typically come with higher compression so someone looking into a forced induction setup would possibly be better off looking into something with a lower compression, instead of an already great built engine.

the b16b is th most efficient out all b series motors.
for example , the itr has b16 head , which everyone knows
but the valves, cams, springs, and retainers are b18 for the block
and has a slight port and polsh. And as for the b16b both parts of the head have port and polish , and the cams work harder , at the mid and top end in high rpms.....so yes it is currently the b16b
is the best b-series made out of factory......

Well I found the place online but I actually picked up the engine in person since it was only about 1 hour away. It came complete with LSD transmission, axles, computer, shift linkage, wiring harness which doesnt work anyways since its made for a right hand driver car. This is where i bought it www.jdmhondaparts.com

crxb16er.

Just to let you know the b16a2 comes out of a 99-00 Civic Si, the b16a3 is what came out of a del sol 94-97. There pretty much the same thing. The only b16a that you can get for about 1400 is the one with a cable tranny. Some of the newer cars need to go hydro and thats why you have to spend more money. Unless you choose to do a conversion to cable.

I'd definitely take a B18C1 over a B16B anyday. The B16B has only 4 more horsepower, and the B18C1 has almost 20 more foot pounds of torque and reaches its powerband much lower the the rpm. I is also usually cheaper than the B16B. I'd never buy anything Type R, unless I bought it through my old Acura dealership, because Honda Motor Co. doesn't care about the Type R name, but everyone else seems too.
