Engine
I just found out today from my gardeners that my car was leaking oil from the exhaust. So I think the engine is basically done right? If so, do you have any suggestions on what engine to get and where to get them? By the way, I'm from the OC/LA area. If you can help me out, that would be nice.

do you want B,F,H,K, or a combo. You kinda have to have an idea of what you want and what your going to do with it.Do you have a buget or not? will this motor be turbo or other? These all play a major roll in picking engine.Dont just think of present time but also 2 years from now!

I dont think I will turbo the engine, just want to keep it NA. I really don't know what used engines go for, but I'd rather not spend over 3k, would like to go cheaper than that. I was thinking about the B18c, but it might be over my limit.

Will my transmission hold up if i just get a b18c engine? or do i have to get a GSR transmission as well? I'm sure it'll be fine because people have done the LS/Vtec, but just to make sure.

The LS transmission will hold up, but the gearing on that thing is so long :hs: its a bit annoying really to hear someone with ls/vtec, B18C (R ad GSR ) to have an LS Gearing... But it will do the job till u can get a new trans

My $0.02.. if you don't want to spend a boatload, try changing the head gasket first. That's one way oil can get into the chamber. If that doesn't do it, I'd recommend ls/vtec versus engine swap. If you do everything right (girdle, block guard, etc.), it's reportedly a very stable engine with horsepower numbers that, in some cases, even surpass an itr at the crank. If you're not looking to have sick power gains and just need a new engine, I'd look at a complete b20z from Japan. It bolts directly into your car - electronics and all (as long as same obd version). In fact - someone please correct me if I'm wrong - you may be able to slap in a b20b shortblock and still use your b18b head. This would just give you bigger displacement. Need a b20 head gasket. But again.. try changing your head gasket if you, in fact, have oil in your exhaust. Also.. maybe take it to a shop. A gardener is a gardener and a certified mechanic is a certified mechanic.

before you jump the gun and spend a few grand...make sure that the "oil" that your gardener saw leaking from your exhaust isnt just carbon buildup in the exhaust system mixed with the liquid h20 that naturally forms from combustion. I once saw a few black dribbles underneath my tailpipe once to discover it was just that.
