Who is your tuner? The only tuner in Chicago I know that is completely capable with the AEM is Sound Performance. I'd take the AEM over the Hondata any day of the week. The only thing you have to worry about is that if you do not have it tuned right and its done half assed, you are in for some problems. If you want the best AEM tuner out there. Contact Justin Nenni of Tuning Concepts in Texas. This guy is amazing with an AEM. He can do it all, he also can do a lot of other forms of EMS tuning such as the Haltec, Motec, etc..........He is also factory trained by AEM so you know he has to know what he is doing Some of his past work is Peter Blach's world record 958rwhp stock block supra, Peter Blach's 1136rwhp Supra this year......Mark Tozer's 902rwhp, All of the cars from Boost Logic have been tuned by Justin. My friend had his tuned by Justin and put out 958rwhp. If you want the best, you want Justin! I think his prices are around 500/day for tuning and hotel and travel expenses.

My tuner IS Sound Performance. I have heard that it is next to impossible with an AEM system to make me idle close to stock. However, it is very easy to do it with a hondata. If so couldn't they tune hondata?

I use the ems and over all my hp was +68 but at 6k I gained close to 80hp at the wheel just from tuning.... and 550cc injectors from 330cc.

Larry is the man! You won't idle as low anymore but does that really matter? Most of the AEM equipped supras I've seen or driven idle around 1000rpm........it stays pretty constant without a lot of fluxtuating(sp?) and they are making over 800rwhp..........The AEM is head and shoulders above the hondata, there is no other EMS system on the market right now that can compare with the AEM.

I had near stock idle without any tuning whatsoever. The idle autocorrection on the new firmware is pretty nice.

I've never had any idle problems at all either. I sit at about 700-800 RPMs. There was a shudder problem when making small throttle adjustments, but Hondata finally released a fix for it in their new flash.

I had a debate between these two. I picked the AEM EMS. Since my car is OBD2, the cost of getting a p28 + jumper + Hondata was almost as much as an EMS. On top of that, I still wouldn't be able to change programs without burning EPROM chips and I wouldn't have as much options. On the other hand, if I was OBD1, I would strongly consider the Hondata. Both are very well engineered systems, and I felt the EMS gave me more bang for the buck.

But I'll I am looking for is which one is gonna give me a better Idle and drivability with my tuner... Ignore cost, Ignore features. Just consider Hondata Idle/Drivability Vs. AEM Idle/Drivability on a boosted Type R with a tuner experienced with AEM and new to Hondata.

Either one has the potential to give you a fine idle and fine driveability, assuming they are tuned properly.

Your tuner says they can do a Hondata but they've never actually done one, while they've done a whole bunch of AEMs. That would lead me to the AEM.

But all around, wouldn't the Hondata have the possibility of giving me a better idle/driveability becasue it keeps the factory ECU??
