Now that is just stupid!
You are supposed to use a CHAIN WRENCH to hold the pulley in place, while someone else tugs on the breaker bar. The chain wrench won't allow the pulley to move while u loosen the bolt.
It costs like 30-40 bucks at autoparts store.

I'm worrying about da same thing. I havn't get 2 that yet. But this might help u.The idea is u want a lot of torque. Torque = Force * Lenght. So if your bolt is tighten to 250 (N m) like my Vigor, the length of the cheater bar(in meter) times your weight (if u can use all your body weight as the force) has to be greater than this 250 (N m). However the angle of this force should be at 90 degree with the bar. The closer (to 90 degree) the better.
In this case, Force = your wieght =[ how heavy u are (in kg) * 9.8 (the gravity)]
I'm 150 lbs , so my weight is 66 (kg) * 9.8 (m/s^2) = 647 N
So if I can use half of my weight to pull at 90 degree (the ideal angle) on a breaker bar extended to half a meter, I should be able to get the bolt off.

In reality, there will be other problems, such as the bolt was there too long and it may not be only this 250 (N m) force that I have to overcome.

Among the three factors(the force, the angle, and the length), I think extending the lenght of the bar is the easiest thing to do.

Note: the length depends on the distance from the bolt to where the force is excerted (where our hand is in this case) and the angle the direction of the force made against the cheater bar. The closer u get to vertical, the greater the length. But if the force is horizontal with the bar, the length is zero, thus no torque.

I hope that help.

I read this thread and it seems like a good idea, the problem is on my 89 prelude SI it only has two holes in the pulley and the are at the 12:00 and 6:00 positions. Any suggestions would be helpful.

it may sound stupid but get yourself a long breaker bar. Make sure that is well place on the ground then tap the motor slowly. Guarantee that bolt well come off. I did it before I got myself a impact.

once upon a time, a man developed this idea in his head to make it easier for people to tighten and loosen bolts that were torqued down more than the normal person can recreate...thus the impact wrench was born and ever since then people have been using it. Use this saying, "if at first you don't succeed, find an easier way!" this applies very well here...rather than still having to exert a nice bit of force on a breaker bar

sorry fellas, but i'd rather reach for the impact and be done quicker...

After much frustration, including 2 different 1/2" impact wrench tries failed: used the "2 bolts & crossbar" method you suggested. Had few failures to get everything just right and then I got it. Pretty crude... had to use (2) 1/2" extensions and a jackstand/2X4 support for the breaker bar/extension joint and a 5 ft. 2" pipe extension, then it came. "Snap", I thought I broke something, but the bolt was loose and could be removed with fingers. Thanks for the help!!
