Default Are turbo vtecs reliable

Hello, I am new to Honda's, owned 4 VW's in the past and just picked up a 99 GSR. Right now I have a few bolt ons (CAI/Header/Catback/Pulleys/Cam Gears) and just plan to stay like that untill I dcide between NA or Turbo. I am looking at the drag gen 3 kit with no imediate internal mods and plan to run 7 psi daily. The kit comes with an FMU and I plan to have it dyno tuned. This is my only car and want to make sure I am not asking for trouble. If my idea is bad please redirect me, if you can offer any advice thank you.

Boost is addictive. You should be able to run about 7psi daily, but also realize that the added stress will shorten the lifespan of the engine. That's not to say it will be unreliable, just may be due for a rebuild sooner down the road than it would otherwise.

Well that sounds about right. I still am not sure if I want to stray from NA, 8k rpms f'n owns me right now and I just cant get enough. My dealer is cool with modding as long as they are clean so I am considering staying NA for the next year or so till my warrant is gone. Knowing that alot of NA mods dont go over well with turbo what are some mods aside from what I listed above that I could do now that will work well with a SC (Jackson?)

I really need a solid Honda schooling just to get a feel for whats out there.

With good tuning 7 psi shouldnt be a problem. Tuning is the most overlooked aspect of tuning a turbo car I believe.

Tuning is the most overlooked aspect of tuning...the irony is sickening. I am really re exploring NA right now, I've only been a member of camp Honda for about 5 days so my B series specific knowledge is weak. I'll start a new thread if I cant find it in search.

I wouldn't worry too much about warranty. Nothing should go wrong with a honda engine that would be covered. And they can't say ur paint fell off from the blazing acceleration of the turbo so we can't fix it under warranty.

Like it was stated, 7psi on stock compression should be pretty relaible, but if you're really into boost, you should go LS.

or you could go inline pro head gasket(www.inlinepro.com) and block gaurd. FMU, 450cc injectors, missing link, afc, and 255lph pump and run 15psi daily on pump gas like I do on stock internals. just tune it. by the way that set up has pushed cars to low low 11's on race gas and 22psi on stock blocks and slicks

If you plan on racing your car at all, you'll need to heavily build up the motor to handle boost.
