how to learn about cars

nice to see some other new drivers on this forum lol.. i think the biggest help is to have friends who really know what they are doing.. a couple of my buddies dads were either mecanics or 'car-handy' and that helps a lot.. i also have 2 friends who are going to school for honda.. try hanging with the car crowd if your not already..

I took a class at a california community college, that taught me all the parts of the engine and how to rebuild it. And the best part of the class was in the lab, where we hands on rebuilt engines. You can even bring in an engine from your own car, and the teachers help you every step of the way and give good advice.
Of course I dont know if you live in CA, but if you do, look into it. Its real cheap too.

Read as much as you can, talk to people who KNOW what their doing, get your hands dirty and try things yourself. If you can afford a second car, buy one and get to work. You'll make a lot of mistakes and it will cost a lot of money, but it will give you experience. Also, classes like everyone is talking about is a great way to start.

the best way to learn anything is to work with your hands, its not to hard and if you have friends that are mechanics than im sure they have cars they work on just ask them if you can help

Getting hands on is the best way to learn. I think you should buy an old honda that needs a bit of work, then read up as much as you can on how to fix it, and then fix it. A mechanical problem forces you to learn how to fix it if you do it yourself. I learned more researching and doing my headswap that I could have ever learned just by reading about it. With that said, I still think researching and reading is still extremely important.
