Dashboard disassembly problem
hi everyone,
I managed to get the dashboard out of my 98 integra but can't separate the vinyl trim from the plastic dash frame. I unscrewed all the gold screws that hold them together so i should be able to pull them apart. Anyone has done this before?

i just got my car a couple weeks ago and am redoing the whole interior.
the car came with tan/beige interior which was a big NO-NO for me so i decided to re-upholster the entire vehicle. right now i'm trying to modify the dash in order to put a touch screen for a in-car computer and i also want to rip the ugly vinyl off and replace it with letherlette or synthetic suede.

agreed...biggest mistake I ever made with my second generation integra was ripping out the interior, It seems like a good idea at the time, however unless you have the knowledge...or the money to pay someone with the knowledge...I wouldn't concern myself with it.
I still don't see why no one likes the beige interior? I've never seen anything wrong with it...as a matter of fact I see it as a way to keep the interior cooler!

maybe it's just me but i feel integra ppl are less concerned about in-car electronics except for V-TEC controllers and that sort of things. I guess it's because of the car's perfomance nature and charactoristics.
Yea, redoing the interior can be a huge pain in the neck and takes some time and labor. it has been almost 3 weeks since i started stripping the interior pieces and i haven't even finished fabricating a single door panel! well, it's partly because of my lazyness tho. hehe :-D
I'm pretty satisfied with the car's perfomance just as is, and although i don't think all beige/tan interiors are bad, it just didn't look right on my black integra, at least to me.
I know it sounds pretty stupid to some ppl and i'm afraid it might offend some serious integra owners but i wanted give my car a distinctive, individual, and somewhat classy look.

DONT seperat the vinyl and foam from the dash. i did that once on one of my cars and just realised that the actual dash piece is not the same as the shap of the vinyl. it would save you time and frustration to just cover over the existing vinyl with new fabric. as long as its not to thick so all the trim goes back in. or you can buy vinyl paint and just change the color of the dash but keep the same texture and it will look a lot better than wraping new matertial around it. i painted the dash in my "pos" beretta lol. and it looked brand new till the day i sold it. the bigest thing with paintings is that you have to prep it right or the paint looks weird. just use a lot of bug greass and adhesive remover thats what i did and it turned out beutiful (well for a beretta haha) i used the same paint to do the carpet. i no it sounds questionable but it looked realy good when i was done the only chang was the feal of the carpet. but eventualy it will work itself back to normal. i changed every thing in the interior from grey to black including rewraping the seats and headliner if you are going to do all this to you should just get seat covers its cheaper, easier, less time consuming, and it looks better. as for the headliner if its vinyl i would just paint it. i redid mine in black leather and it never stoped falling down. if you are rewraping it you should just go over the existing material just use the right kinda glue. /not crappy spray on/ make sure to put up some pics so we can see it when its done.

thx for the valuable input joshua. i was thinking about taking the dash to an acura dealer and have them separate the vinyl trim coz it was (and still is) giving me a sh*t load of trouble. yea painting it or covering it with a new material sound like a manageable plan but the problem is i have to cut the dash in order to install an enclosure for a touch screen and i want to mold the dash and the enclosure together with body filler. i'm not quite sure if the body filler sticks well on a soft, vinyl surface. maybe i'll just rip the vinyl off around the area where i want to put the enclosure and leave the rest as is then later cover the whole thing with a new material. i'll eventually replace the front seats with some nice set of sparco or recaro so i'm not gonna do anything to the stock front seats. i tried dupli-color fabric/vinyl paint for the rear seats and it turned out to be ok. except now they obviously feel like they are painted. some ppl suggested i should use fabric softener but i wasn't entirely sure it wouldn't f*ck up the paint so i haven't tried it yet. i was thinking maybe i could replace the seats with leather ones from some other integra or buy leather seat upholstery (not covers that you put on your existing fabric). since i will probably get lether seats in the near future, i might as well give fabric softener a shot. or maybe i could have used a fabric dye. i am wondering whether i should paint the headliner or cover it with a new fabric. i guess i'll use duplicolor paint for the headliner and see how it looks. any idea or suggeston for what kind of glue i should use to put new fabric on the dash and the door panels?
