grinds when shifting to reverse
Sometimes when I shift in reverse (especially when it's cold out), I let out the clutch and it just starts grinding. Like last night I had to try 8 times before it engage correctly. I heard it could be my shift fork, but I really don't much about transmissions.
I'm thinking about taking it in soon to a shop to have them fix it. Could anyone tell me what it could be and around how much it should cost (so I don't get screwed)? Thanks.

clutch disc isnt completely disengaging, rev the engine in neutral, with the clutch petal out, then push it in for 10 seconds put the car in reverse and see if it grinds if it does then its clutch disc. the disc is relatively cheap about 25 bucks but u have to completely pull the tranny to get to it, and if u remove the tranny u migh as well replace the whole clutch, whole new clutch would be right around 110-160 depending on parts availablility and prices labor is gonna be a bitch though and run u newhere from 400-700 dollars, good luck if u decide to replace it if u lived near me id do the labor for 300 bucks but ur pretty far away so good luck and see if ur friends are good with cars

Maybe I need to be a bit more specific, the grinding occurs when I start to lift off the clutch pedal. The shift lever completely goes into place (most of the time), it's as soon I start lifting my foot.

yah clutch disc or ur clutch cable isnt completely disengaging the clutch, obviously u do have to wait until the disc is done spinning and stationary b4 u put it into reverse any time so it maybe normal or just might be getting hard to get it into gear...

b4 u shift into reverse try putting it into 2nd gear then pulling it back out then into reverse again (all while holding in the clutch)
this slows down the tranny making it go into reverse with ease...

Every time it does that I shift into other gears, then try reverse, then shift into other gears, try reverse again... til it finally works. So yeah, it eventually works, but it's very annoying. So that means it's the clutch disc or cable? Hm...

Reverse doesn't have a synchro so its harder to get into gear, that is normal enough. However if you grind in Reverse while enguaging it than I would say you have some tranny problems. I doubt its a clutch because the clutch works fine in the forward gears right. And you use the clutch for everything, so it wouldn't just be wrong with one thing. I'd say your reverse gear is wearing out.
