Default Head Swap

Is it possible to switch the head, fuel injection, transmission etc., of a 89 Civic LX to the block of a carbureted D15 Civic?

I'm not sure what year and model the engine is. I ordered a replacement for the D15B 1.5L DPFI in the 89 Civic and instead was shipped the carbbed D15B. It looks like it came from an 87 Civic at first glance. The engine in my Civic has bad rings, so if I can swap everything to the new block, I'll still be ok. If I can't switch I'm going to try and fight the company that shipped the carbbed engine, but time is a factor and I'd like to see if I can switch before I get into that.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: No, all of the carb'd 1300 and 1500 engines were from third generation (US 84-87) cars. This means they use a different style of distributor, a vacuum advance with a different bolt pattern. The head is probably also of a CVCC design, which would be a pain to work with. Harry (1stgencrxer) can explain that mess better then I can, since my '87 is a (fuel injected) Si. The intake and exhaust manifolds are also very different and know at least the exhaust manifold is not interchangable with later cars. There are a lot of little differences between pre-88 E series (now D series) and 88+ D series engines, so you better call that company back and get the right head.

The carbureted head isn't really what i'm worried about. I was going to take my fuel injected cylinder head from my engine that's in the car and stick it on the short block from the carbureted engine. The block is what I want to replace. Is this possible?

no, get a different engine from the company, it's not worth getting that old of an engine, just get an 88 plus D15b1 or D15b2 and you should be ok...

You want to use a 4G head on the 3G block in a 4G car?

Can't do that, the blocks mount differently. The 84-87 block will not mount into your car.

I called the company I bought it from and found out that the carbureted engine is a JDM (thought it was a USDM) for the 88-91 models, and the block should fit.

Oh, yeah, the Japanese used carbs on a lot of stuff we didn't. For example, the dual carb'd ZC when all of our D16A1 engines were FI.
