Default Is it worth adding an intake to a STD?

I have a 90 STD 4sp Hatch,
is it worth getting an intake for it?
Will it even increase performance on a car that makes a measly 70hp?

I'm thinking about getting one of the ebay cheapies, for the noise it makes if nothing else.

opinions?

You'll notice a small difference. Probably even noticeably so.

But don't spend too much...but then again, you can always use it later if you do a swap.

its up to you man?? what kinda plans you got for it?? if you plan on doing a swap then you could get a decent one now that you can use on both engines (if applicable) or just wait for the swap, or just get something cheap and easy.

there will be a slight increase though

I plan on putting one on mine...but I'm not going the expensive route on this one, I'm gonna make my own, the most expensive part is gonna be whatever filter I choose to put on it. I have the good ol' 90 STD too...I thought I was the only one around here.

http:/www.teamdelsol.com/
has a great "do-it-yourself" link for making your own. Go to their "information" section and then to their "how-to" section. This is the guidline that I will be using for mine. Very very sooon

Good luck

Thanks Magik,
I like the idea of making my own intake, so I think I'll give the Del Sol directions a try.

I'm not planning on doing a swap....not unless my engine dies for some reason. I don't race or anything. I'm more interested in gas mileage and reliability than speed. I think an intake, tint, wheels and clear corners and a console and I'll be done.

All an intake is going to do to that car is:
1) Make it louder, and
2) Make it slower.

An aftermarket intake is most likely going to be a lot bigger then your stock intake pipe, so you will loose a lot of air velocity with a huge bottleneck in the throttlebody/intake manifold area. It's just like putting an intake on a 92-95 CX, there is just no reason to because the rest of the intake/exhaust line is already so small.

If you want the look and the sound, go for it. It won't do anything else for you (on the stock STD engine at least.)

You're welcome. God, you sound like me...I'm obsessed about gas mileage...I'm still averaging about 500kms (320 miles) per tank of city driving. As far as reliability, that's my main concern, it's my only car and It's gotta get me from a-b-c so I need to be sure when I get in it it is going to do that!

Snap up a pic or two of your STD and let us have a look.
