how did you swap coolant hoses without coolant spilling all over?

i know nothing about the coolant system

Really, you can't. Just burp the cooling system when you are done.

Ok, the filter is installed. How the hell does that thing work anyway? I just don't see how it's supposed to keep water from getting into my engine.

question: if some coolant leaked out and i just reconnected the hose without burping, is that bad?

oh shit... I just posted in the wrong thread... But I might as well just explain it than. I'm talking about a CAI bypass valve.

Run the car with the rad. cap off and the heater on full blast until it fully warms up and the thermostat opens. Any air in the system will bubble up through the radiator opening. Top off with coolant. Opening the bleeder screw helps (when the engine is cold, close it before running the car!)

Yes, the car may run hot or actually overheat if enough coolant is lost.
