Port & Polsih
After weeks and weeks of research, I decided not to go with the ZC swap for my 91 Si HB. You have no guarentee with those import engine on mileage or broken external compoents.
So currently my 1.6L sohc is stripped down to the block. Yesterday I replaced the piston rings, and the head is going to the shop monday for a head job.
My question to you is what kind of performance is gained with Port & Polishing a head? And what is an average price for the job? Minus the cost of pulling the head of course. Could a dremel be used to grind off the cast markings in the ports?
An for those of you who think a ZC is the ultimate engine.... its not. And then you will say "hey, it's the best bang for the buck"... no its not.
The 1.6L sohc is rated at 108hp with 100 flbs of torque.
The 1.6L dohc is rated at 137hp with 108 flbs of torque.
I put
-$82 premieum piston rings.
-$25 premieum head gasket.
-$34 short ram intake.
-$85 OBX header 4-2-1.
-$120 OBX Polished Aluminum Intake Manifold.
-$13 New Dome Light
Total: 359
Thanks again for all your imput into my decision making process.
Also I apologize for spelling, I'm in a hurry.

of course the zc isnt the ultimate engine, we all know a b16 is much better performance wise, but it is a relatively cheap swap as compared to what else is out there, that is a great platform to work from as well as its a great block to build for boost. having owned both now i have to say i like both alot more compared to the original si engine.

and yes the dremel rotorary tool can be used to remove casting marks with the right bits, the flex shaft attachment makes it much easier if u've got it to work with also.

The B16A is a B-series. That in itself makes it better. Using stock B-series parts alone you can build a good engine out of it (B17 crank and rods, P73 pistons, P73 cams) or you can go nuts with stroker kits, deck plates, aftermarket anything from a few dozen manufacturers. It even comes with a better R/S ratio. Hell, it even has a better bore/stroke ratio.
In stock form, it is overrated. Once you work with it, it's not so bad. A ZC may be great, but it is still obsolete (So is the B, but we won't go there.) I'm not saying I wouldn't work with one, just that I'd rather have a B-series in my car. IMHO, the B18A/B is an underrated engine.

i have to agree that the b16 is a very nice engine, the top end power is great fun, but now they are getting way too expensive to drop into a crx. having owned both i would strongly suggest doing a zc if u dont plan on building some super car with 200+ hp, the b16 is a stronger platform but requires alot more money to run the engine which i dont feel is worth it. anymore (i used to) when it was all i had previously owned. both are great engines though choose one that fits u and dont bash those who have different opinions
