If you have good 93 octane gas in your area (i.e., not california) then 11.5:1 is possible. I would not recommend anything higher in a street car. The higher the compression, the more power, it really depends how much you are willing to spend on petrol.
Are you still running a stock cam? I would suggest a higher lift cam and tighter valve springs to compliment the high-comp pistons for best performance. Of course this is assuming you already have the classic I/H/E.

I want a daily driver but more torque and lower end power. Would it hurt to run 10.5:1 with stock cam and valve springs?
Rings are bad anyways.... just thinking about small performance upgrade.
It is already 9.1:1 stock so it would just give a little kick?

you could get a zc for the price of pistons/rings. Plus you would have more power/torque and even more potential on top of that.
other than that, srp makes an 11.0 piston for the a6 seen about halfway down on this page:

they make some pretty good forged internals
cp also makes some pistons, but i've never heard of them before:dunno:

High compression pistons will help the powerband, but will not give the gains you want for the price. Torque is more displacement related then anything, our engines where ment to make torque at high RPMs for power (HP = RPM x Torque / 5252) because it is easier to make high HP numbers at high RPM. Short of an engine swap, there isn't much you can do for the low end.
