changing the main relay

changing the main relay
I've got to replace the main relay in a '90 Civic LX. The question is: how much of the dash do I need to remove? I've taken off the fuse box cover, lower support, etc., but it looks like I've got to take off damn near the whole dash just to remove the part on the lower left that covers the relay. I was able to get to the relay, but it was a major pain; it would be much easier if I could just get that lower section out of the way.
Am I missing something here?
Thanks.

Ok you've got a Sedan, I'm not sure about those but I can tell you how I did it in my Hatch...
1. Remove coin box, it is held in with 3 screws
2. Remove the hood release latch with 2 screws
3. Now remove that rather large looking bolt that is holding the nearest piece of panel there.
Now right above where the hood release latch was should be the Main Relay. It is a black box with a metal bar attached to it...
Yours may be different than this, I don't know. But LX had the 1.5 so it is probably the same.
4. Now where the hole is in that metal bar will be a 10mm bolt holding it in. Undo that bolt.
5. Unplug the wire harness from the old Main Relay
6. Do this in reverse to instal.

According to the techs at the dealership they do not take the actual relay housing out-I have no clue how they get in there with a small screwdriver and release the wiring harness and then the 2 tabs on the relay case.
Anyway-just undo the 10mm bolt from the bracket and you can rotate it into the coin box. It takes some effort and you may need to pry on the lower dash a little.
It just takes time and patience <G>
